RUTH OLA McCONNELL | News, Sports, Jobs

Ruth Ola McConnell, 87, of Alpena was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

Ruth was born on October 21, 1933 in Alpena to the late David and Ola (Case) Dinsmore. She graduated from Alpena High School and on July 20, 1952, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Orrin McConnell, at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Ruth had four things that have always remained important to her: God, family, church, and community. She had a servant’s heart and never turned down someone in need. His thought was that you never knew when you could entertain angels without knowing it. Serving his family, his church family and his community has brought him great joy. Ruth was always the one doing the work behind the scenes, which is exactly what she liked best. She was an active member of the New Life Christian Fellowship where she served as an elder and deacon. Ruth also served in several different service groups and also ran the pantry for many years. Ruth also enjoyed tending to her flower garden, cooking and baking. She was known for her delicious pies and for baking 6-7 loaves of bread each week. Ruth will be sadly missed, but there is no doubt that she will hear the words “Well done to your good and faithful servant”.

Ruth is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Orrin McConnell, her daughter Terri Konecki, three grandchildren, Keith Konecki, Scott McConnell, Nicole McConnell, two great grandchildren, Fern and Lillian McConnell, and two sisters , Ervlene Lee and Karen Roulette. She was predeceased by her son Brent, her brother Robert Anderson and two sisters, Andrea Anderson and Nada Heath.

Ruth is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visitation will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until time of funeral at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Smith as officiant. The service will be broadcast live on where online condolences can also be recorded.
