Courses offered – St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 715 Jefferson Ave., Defiance offers courses for Catholics who want to update themselves on church teaching, for those who want to learn more about the church, and for those who want to join the church. In concert – Wauseon United Congregational Church of Christ, 135 W. Elm St., will host the New Legacy Project from Nashville, Tenn., Saturday at 7 pm. Rick Price, owner and founder of New Legacy Project, began his 40-year career in Southern Gospel music with the legendary Blackwood Brothers Quartet. Originally a patron of the late Cecil Blackwood, Price was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame with the Grammy-winning group and Dove in the 1990s. After Cecil’s death, with the support of his widow, he and Chris Blackwood formed the Blackwood Legacy. The group has been touring the United States continuously since its formation in 2001. In 2017, Price made the decision to rename Blackwood Legacy to the New Legacy Project, believing that God is speaking in ministry in a new way. The group consists of Spokane native Luke Yates; Chase Davis, who was born and raised in Flint, Michigan; and native of North Carolina, Daniel Rivera. In 2021, Price’s son Alex began traveling and working with the group. A voluntary offering will be taken. For more information, call 419-467-3956.

Chain of Life Prayer – A Life Chain prayer event will be held Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. outside the Defiance County Courthouse, 221 Clinton St., Defiance. Participants will pray for the protection of the unborn child, for Christian leaders, for families and for all life. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Blessing of our pets – McClure United Methodist Church, 430 S. East St., invites animal lovers to bring their animals to church grounds for a celebration of blessing our pets, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. L The event will include a song and a prayer of blessing for each pet. Pet owners are requested to bring their pets on a leash, in cages or in cages. For more information, call 419-748-8505.

Baked Steak Supper – McClure United Methodist Church, 430 S. East St., will be hosting its first fall steak dinner on October 8 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The menu includes: baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, Harvard beets, green beans, corn, salad, rolls, drinks and a variety of pies and cakes. Parish feast – Immaculate Conception Parish, 211 Church Street, Ottoville, is having its annual parish festival on October 10. The event will feature take-out chicken and beef dinners, with all the homemade sides and desserts, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on-site meals will be served, with presale tickets available. There will be a lunch stand with homemade noodle soup, sandwiches including kids and fries from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm. A bakery products stand will open at 9 a.m. games, face painting, balloon artist, sand art, kids tractor pull, corn hole tournament and can jam tournament. For adults there will be Triple Crown horse races, a silver wheel, Euchre tournament and bingo for all ages from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm A Big Ticket draw with a first prize of $ 1,000 and more. cash prizes will be available, with the draw scheduled for 6:30 pm The Parish Historical Museum will be open to visitors from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm For more information, call 419 453-3513.

BBQ Chicken Dinner – St. John Catholic Church, 510 Jackson Ave., Defiance, is taking pre-orders for its 1/2 BBQ Chicken Dinner at its annual Fest-for-All on Oct. 24 starting at 11 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 111 Elliott Road, Defiance. Pre-orders must be received by October 12 for dinners, which cost $ 10 each. The menu includes: chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, bun and a cookie. Ticket holders are invited to dine during Fest-for-All on October 24 or pick up their dinners at the back of Room K de C on October 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chicken Dinners are sponsored by Postema Insurance & Trust, Arps Dairy, Kissner’s Restaurant, Batt & Stevens Body Shop, Jacob’s Meats and Schaffer Funeral Home.
