Chris Pratt on Anti-LGBTQ Church Attendance Allegations

Hollywood star Chris Pratt has opened up about accusations that he attends an anti-LGBTQ church, stressing that he was never a “religious person”.

Pratt came under fire in 2019 for attending Hillsong Church, which some say is anti-LGBTQ. At the time, the actor denied the allegations and said, “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

During an interview with Men’s Health, Pratt said he has never been to church.

“I’ve never been to Hillsong. I’ve never been to Hillsong. I don’t know anyone from that church,” he said, adding that he decided not to say that at the time because that he didn’t want to “throw a church under the bus”.

The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star stressed that he was not a “religious person”.

“Religion has been oppressive as f**k for a long time. I didn’t know that I would kind of become the face of religion when I’m really not a religious person,” Pratt said.

“I think there’s a distinction between being religious – adhering to man-made customs, often appropriating the fear reserved for what I believe to be a very real God – and using that to control people, to take money from people, to abuse children, to steal land, to justify hatred,” he added.

The Hollywood star revealed he sometimes attends Zoe Church, as well as a Catholic church his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger grew up in.

It was in 2018 when Pratt accepted an honor at the MTV Movie & TV Awards and during his speech the actor said “God is real. God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe it. do.”

Looking back on that infamous moment, Pratt said, “Maybe it was hubris. For me to stand up on stage and say the things that I said, I’m not sure I had touched anyone.”

The actor said that while he tries to stay away from negativity online, it can sometimes be hurtful, like the criticism he received last November when he was mocked for sharing a message praising his wife Schwarzenegger.

In the post, he thanked Schwarzenegger for giving him “an amazing life” and a “beautiful healthy daughter”, which many assumed was a dig at ex-wife Anna Faris and their 9-year-old son Jack. born prematurely and facing health problems. .

Pratt told Men’s Health, “A bunch of articles came out saying, ‘This is so goofy.’ I can’t believe Chris Pratt would thank her for having a healthy daughter when his first child was born prematurely. It’s such a rebuke to his ex-wife,” he said, qualifying the response of “f****d up.”
“My son is going to read this someday. He’s 9 years old. And it’s set in digital stone. It really bothered me, man. I cried about it. I was like, ‘I hate that these blessings in my life be – for the people close to me – a real burden.'”
